    High School Counseling Services

The school counseling program at Southern Garrett High School is designed to assist students in decision-making and to help each student appreciate their self-worth, grow emotionally, socially, academically and to be school/career ready upon graduation. The counselor provides academic guidance on the student’s journey through high school, provides insight on career choices including the military, continuing education and joining the work force immediately, provides lessons on topics like mindfulness, empathy, goal setting, and career exploration. Teachers, families, or students may make referrals for specific problems to the school counselor. The school counselor meets with new students entering the school to welcome and orient them on the school’s expectations. School counselors also assist in the transition between grade levels, including 8th grade students coming to high school.
