Since 1962, the third week of March has been celebrated by presidential decree as National Poison Prevention Week (NPPW) to provide opportunities to raise awareness about the dangers of poisoning.Maryland Poison Help Line: 1.800.222.1222FREE COVID TESTING:If You Have Signs and Symptoms of COVID-19:The Garrett County Health Department is available for appointment only testing of patients with signs and symptoms of COVID-19 from 8:30 am to 3 pm on Monday through Friday at our Oakland office. Since these patients are symptomatic, a rapid antigen test will be performed. If the rapid test is negative, it will be reflexed to a PCR test. Testing will be done through the window of the patient’s vehicle.To schedule an appointment, patients should call 301.334.7697. This testing is limited to persons with symptoms.The Covid-19 vaccine is now available for children ages 5-11. If you are interested in getting your child vaccinated for Covid-19, you may contact your healthcare provider or the Garrett County Health Department. The vaccine is also available at some pharmacies in Garrett County. If you decide to get your child vaccinated for Covid-19, please send an updated vaccine record or copy of your child's vaccine card to the school nurse. This vaccination is NOT mandatory.REMINDER:Students CANNOT be sent to school with the illness in question. If the student arrives at school with any illness, the student will be screened and will be sent home if the nurse deems it necessary. Decisions will be made case-by-case in accordance to the CDC and GCPS policies and procedures.**The Student Process Map is a good resource to refer to and lets you know what steps to take, should your child become ill.**The GCPS Covid19 Dashboard is NEW and ACTIVE NOW. The dashboard is where you can find updated information on covid19 cases in GCPS as well as guidelines and testing information. As always, please contact your school with any questions.
